“BaroQue Across the River, a Brooklyn group, opened the concert with two elegant French cantatas — Rameau’s L’Impatience and Montéclair’s Ariane et Bacchus — to which Michèle Eaton brought a sumptuous tone, a keen dramatic sense and striking agility in the ornamental vocal scoring.  Kathy McDonald contributed the appealing flute obbligato in the Montéclair..” Alan Kozinn of the New York Times

“Ms. McDonald had the virtuosic agility for this piece [CPE Bach, Hamburg Sonata]…an impeccable sense of ensemble throughout the concert…” PIONEER, Long Island University, NY

Audience and Presenter Comments

My husband and I had the pleasure of attending the Baroque Across the River Concert yesterday….we were swept away!  They obviously are remarkably talented and expressive musicians and they seemed to enjoy performing for their audience as much as we enjoyed sharing the experience.  How nice it was to have the sung words!  Although it was easy to understand the clear soprano voice, we are enjoying re-reading and appreciating the sentiments. We hope to hear them again soon.  Many thanks for a lovely afternoon!

Baroque Across the River is superb.  They are a talented group that plays with enthusiasm and are heartily interested in sharing their gifts and knowledge as they stay after performances to chat with members of the audience.

BaroQue Across the River offered an exquisite program of cantatas by J.S. Bach, Telemann and Handel on Sunday.  The program also offered splendidly virtuosic instrumental solos so the audience could experience a variety of colors and sound, a well planned and executed program by all!  We look forward to having them back at the Brooklyn Society of Ethical Culture.

Thanks to the group for the time you all spent in answering my questions about the Baroque instruments.  It was a great learning experience for me as well as helping me to complete my college paper for music appreciation, a truly exhilarating and educational experience for me.
